Derwent's Pro Champion Tatiana leading the fleet
Twenty-four Tera sailors came for the first of the Northern Tera travellers event hosted by DRSC. Sailors ages ranged from 8 years old to 14 years with some national squad sailors and most of the Northern Tera squad. Saturday looked to be the most promising wind forecast although the temperature was a little wintery. Howard assisted by Giles and his crew slickly provided 4 races back to back.
In the Pro fleet it was a tussle for first place between Derwent’s Tatiana and Theo from Windermere with two wins each. There was very close racing in the sports fleet but the consistency of William Bailey put him on top. Sunday was more challenging with an ever increasing wind up to around 20mph. Although there were some spectacular capsizes there was also some impressive sailing. Three races were completed before the Race officer decided it was getting a little too challenging for the fleet.
Congratulations to Tatiana Dickinson from DRSC for demonstrating how to sail a Tera and winning the pro fleet and to William Bailey from Ripon sailing club for winning the sports fleet overall. Thomas Donald from DRSC came second. Derwent sailors put in a great performance with Eilish Graham 5th, Lucas Straughan 8th and Stephen Kilty 17th.
